Fahrenheit 451 ESSAY

How does “F451” relate to the world today?  F451 is a book about people in a city only depending on new technology and not wanting to use books for knowledge like today, not many people read books. This book is about how the government doesn't want books so they burn them using firemen and 451 the temperature that books burn at. I will talk about how this books relates to us today and how Guy Montag is an outlier and smarter than everyone else.

The advances in technology in society are pretty huge, many people in the world stays at home watching television and watching a lot of brainwashing content that it has to offer. People are always on social media whether if it's at work, school, home, friend's house, check emails and messages. An average cellphone user touches their phone 2,617 times a day. People that are 18-24 checks their phone 74 times a day, they average a total of 5 hours of time per day on their phone. Just like in F451, people are very addicted to new technologies and prefer getting their knowledge from screens than books. I think people do this because they don't' have to think for themselves and rely on technology to do it for them.

In this book Guy Montag is an outlier, society doesn't use books for knowledge. Montag illegally has a book library and reads books illegally and he is a firemen and should be doing the complete opposite as this. Montag meets Professer Faber (a retired english teacher and also reads books illegally) in a park. This is pretty sad because the only way they can get knowledge is to read books and memorize them.

All in all, I believe this book pretty well symbolizes our culture today and how people use technology to the extreme.
